Twitter Friends vs. Productivity

To commemorate my milestone of 1,000 “followers” on Twitter, I thought I would show everyone a graph that illustrates how Twitter is currently affecting my productivity.

Brian Shaler - Twitter Friends vs. Productivity

As you can see, I experienced a rapid growth in friends this week. The number of friends I gained on Twitter has been inversely proportional to the amount of work I’ve gotten done.

I should have included a green line for “Time Spent Drawing Productivity Graph”!

Update: I just realized that my friend count didn’t go down, but I don’t feel like going back and redrawing that line. It looks better with the stock market feel anyway.

Do you count followers as friends? Cos you added me as a friend, but I did not reciprocate. You are indicated as “follower” of mine, and not a friend. How does followers v. friends affect the crappy graph?

That’s true. In fact, there is no need to tell the world what you’re doing.

    Hey Brian.
The high “friends” score definitely has neg. impact on both coolness and productivity! I twittered this after adding you as a friend… making me one degree less cool, of course….

I get to your neighborhood regularly. Am I geeky enough yet to actually filter through the 24,000 friends on your radar? Curious to know where the real boundries are.

How do you decide who you add as a friend on twitter? I felt special when I randomly got a new friend. Then realized I was one of about 3000. Nice site by the way, I digg the graphs. Check out the stand up comedian Demetri Martin’s comedy special called PERSON. He draws some awesome graphs as well.
